ICBC

Post-MVA Counselling

ICBC has changed how they manage their clients after an accident or MVA. In the past, people had to wait sometimes for months to be able to get financial support for therapy post-MVA. This was certainly problematic in that it has been my experience that the sooner people begin therapy post-MVA the sooner they can return to their pre-MVA or close to level of functioning.

Fortunately, ICBC has moved away from their old model of paying out clients for MVA related injuries both physical and psychological. In fact, many do not realize that as soon as you have an ICBC claims number you are instantly entitled to 12 sessions of therapy to help manage the psychological trauma post-MVA meaning you can literally start your psychological and emotional recovery virtually instantaneously. The benefit to this as well is that you are not required to pay for these sessions out-of-pocket and get reimbursed at a later date.

As the RCC, I can bill ICBC on your behalf which only helps alleviate some of the stress you are already dealing with post-MVA. Typically ICBC does not request access to your charts for the purpose of settlement however in the event you acquire a lawyer, your lawyer will require access to your chart information and as such ICBC will be granted access to this same information for the purpose of settlement. As an RCC I can guide you through this process if that issue arises.

Virtual or In-Person Sessions

Since the COVID Pandemic remote sessions became an integral part of peoples’ mental health care as in-person therapy sessions were lost to the pandemic. Since then remote sessions have become an integral part of the service provided for people.

Remote sessions can occur either over the phone or through Zoom if you prefer face-to-face. The feedback received about remote sessions has been very positive as people can have their sessions in the privacy and comfort of their own space. Remote sessions also allow for less impact on the individuals as they do not need to travel to a session, leave work early for a session, or get child care while they attend a session. You can get the same level of care and understanding remotely as you could through in-person sessions.

A lot of people really value the in-person experience and so for these people, in-person sessions can be arranged. Neither format is right or wrong and both can be accommodated. In some cases, some clients implement a hybrid version incorporating both methods into their mental health maintenance.
